How to choose your chinoiserie desk mat

Eight designs, and they split by how much of the pattern you want to live with.

Blue and white landscapes

Mountains, water, pavilions, all in the cobalt-on-cream palette borrowed from porcelain. Calm from a distance, detailed up close, and the most classically chinoiserie thing here. Start with the blue landscape or the mountain landscape.

Birds and branches

Cranes, songbirds, blossom on bare branches. Lighter than the landscapes, with more empty space around the subject, so they sit under a cluttered desk without adding to the noise. See the vintage bird and the bird chinoiserie desk pad.

Florals on blue

Peonies and foliage filling the whole surface. These are the boldest of the eight and the ones that read as wallpaper rather than artwork — which is exactly right if the rest of the desk is plain. The floral blue landscape.

The William Morris one

Not chinoiserie strictly speaking — it's English Arts and Crafts — but it lives here because it does the same job: dense vintage pattern, muted palette, nothing modern about it. The William Morris peacock is the best-seller of the eight.

Pattern and screen glare

Dense patterns are busier in peripheral vision than a plain mat, which some people find distracting over a long working day and others never notice. If it's your first patterned mat, the bird designs have the most empty space and are the gentler way in.

Which size

These are landscapes, so the 16" × 32" is where they make sense — you get the whole scene instead of a corner of it. At 9" × 7" you're looking at a crop, which works for the bird designs and not for the mountains.

What size desk mat do you need?

Measure the width of your desk first, then pick one size down. A desk mat should leave a little breathing room on each side — edge to edge looks cramped.

Size Measurements Fits
Small9" × 7"Mouse only
Medium12" × 18"Laptop, or mouse + notebook
Large12" × 22"Keyboard + mouse, tight
XL16" × 32"Keyboard, mouse, coffee, room to breathe

Most people buying a desk pad for a full setup go XL. Gamers who need mouse travel: XL, always.

Chinoiserie Desk Mats & Vintage Mouse Pads FAQ

What's the difference between a desk mat and a mouse pad?

Size, mostly. A mouse pad covers your mouse. A desk mat, or desk pad, runs under your keyboard, mouse and everything else, and protects the desk surface underneath. Every design comes in both scales: Small for mouse-only, XL for the full desk.

Will the print fade?

The print is dye sublimation, so the color lives inside the fibers instead of sitting on top of them. It doesn't crack, peel or wear off where your wrist rests.

Do the edges fray?

No. The edges are stitched, not cut. That's the seam you can feel around the border, and it's what keeps a mat looking new after a year instead of shedding threads.

Will it slide around my desk?

No. The whole underside is textured rubber. It grips glass, laminate and wood without any adhesive, and it doesn't creep during fast mouse movements.

How do I clean it?

Warm water and a little dish soap on a cloth. You don't need to soak the whole mat, just work the spot. For anything stubborn, a soft-bristled brush does it. Air dry flat.

Are these desk mats good for gaming?

Yes. The print doesn't change the surface. It's a smooth, low-friction fabric top on 3mm neoprene, so tracking stays consistent across the whole mat. The XL gives you full arm-sweep room for low-DPI play.

How long does it take to arrive?

Every mat is made to order, so there's a short production window before it ships. Exact timing for your country shows at checkout.

  • Non-Slip Rubber Base

No more mats slipping around while you're working or gaming. Each desk mat features a sturdy rubber base that grips firmly to any surface, keeping your setup stable and secure—even during intense mouse movements or daily typing. Whether you're at home or in the office, this feature guarantees comfort and control.

  • Hemmed Edges for Long-Lasting Quality

Fraying edges? Not here. Our mats are finished with clean, durable stitching that protects against wear and tear. These hemmed edges give your mat a premium look while ensuring it lasts longer, even with everyday use. It’s a small detail that makes a big difference in durability.

  • Made to Order, Made with Care

We don’t mass produce. Every desk mat is made to order—just for you. This helps us reduce waste, avoid overproduction, and create a more sustainable process. It may take a little longer, but it's worth the wait—for you and the planet.

All about our Chinoiserie Desk Mats & Vintage Mouse Pads

The blue-and-white porcelain look, laid flat under a keyboard.

8 chinoiserie desk mats — mountain landscapes in cobalt and cream, birds among branches, peonies, and one William Morris peacock that wandered in from a different century. Pattern-heavy and deliberately old-fashioned.

Printed on 3mm neoprene with a non-slip rubber back and stitched edges that don't fray, in four sizes from a 9" × 7" mouse pad to a 16" × 32" mat. Made to order. It's the smallest collection in the shop, which is the point — these are the designs for a desk that already has a wooden lamp and a stack of books on it.
